A Beginning Art Teacher's Blog

Finding Music in Art

Can You Hear It? – Second grade just finished a project with their teacher about musical instruments. They had to draw themselves as a musical instrument (drum, bell, guitar, piano, trumpet) using characteristics about themselves for meaning. I shared the book “Can You Hear It” with them and we learned that music and sounds are in artwork. They listened to music and drew what they heard. And then they drew their own images with sounds and music in them. Some had barking dogs, whistling people, cop sirens, volcanoes erupting, wind blowing, etc.
